may be a source of reactive power or sink of reactive AC power.

a shunt device which uses power electronics devices like GTO, IGCT, MCT or IGBT
etc.
•STATCOM is more advantageous than SVC.
•STATCOM exhibit constant current
characteristics.
•STATCOM is usually installed to improve
power factor and to improve voltage regulation.
•STATCOM is a voltage source converter
device (VSC).
•Basically
STATCOM consists of Coupling transformer,
Power converter, Reactors and Controllers etc.
•STATCOM have symmetric lead-lag
capability.
•STATCOM have no moving part.
